Join Oregon State University professor Stacey Smith, author of Freedom’s Frontier: California and the Struggle Over Unfree Labor, Emancipation, and Reconstruction, and Sausalito Historical Society board member Jim Scriba for an examination of the racial divide in California in the 1800s. This online presentation will explore how the United States Constitution, federal law, and California law and labor practices laid the foundation for the racial inequality that persists today.
