Loan Periods

  • Books and audiobooks - 3 weeks
  • Music CDs - 1 week
  • DVDs - 1 week
  • Bestseller DVDs - 3 days
  • Bestseller books - 2 weeks
  • Bay Area Discovery Museum passes (available to Marin residents only) - 6 days
  • Library of Things - 7 days
  • California State Parks Vehicle Parking passes (available to Marin residents only) - 3 weeks

Checkout Limits

  • Books - 100
  • Books on CD - 20
  • Magazines - 3 per title (older issues only)  
  • DVDs - 20
  • Music CDs - 20
  • Library of Things - 1 (94965 residents only)
  • OverDrive e-books and e-audiobooks - 25 at any time
  • Kanopy streaming movies - 12 per month
  • Hoopla movies, music, comics, e-books, e-audiobooks - 12 per month  

Renewals 

  • Two renewals per item (items will auto-renew if there are no requests on them)
  • To renew your items online, click here.
  • Bestseller books, Bestseller DVDs, and museum passes cannot be renewed
  • Renewals may be made in person, online, by telephone, or via email to library@sausalito.gov.

Overdue Charges 

  • As of July 13, 2020, there are no overdue fines on Sausalito Library-owned items, but checked out items still have due dates, and long-overdue items will be billed at replacement cost.

Lost Materials Charges 

Lost materials are charged at the price of item.

Interlibrary Loans Outside of MARINet and LINK+

  • As of May 14, 2024, we no longer provide interlibrary loan services.

Returning Library Materials 

All borrowed items may be returned at any public library in Marin County.

Books and other items may be returned to the Sausalito Library in person or one of our book and A/V drop locations:

  • Litho Street entrance to City Hall/Library building
  • City Hall parking lot (enter from Bee Street)
