Join the Sausalito Public Library on Monday, February 10 at 6:00 p.m. in the Edgewater Room for a book talk with Marin resident Janna Barkin, author of the recently released book titled A Grand Love: Stories for Grandparents of Transgender Grandchildren. The newly released book is a testament to the power of unconditional love and support, inspiring readers to embrace every grandchild with open arms. A Grand Love discusses the experience of being a grandparent to transgender children and includes up-to-date research on gender identity, letters and stories from grandparents and resources for youth and their families. Barkin provides uplifting, educational guidance on how to support your grandchild and yourself. Barkin is also the author of He's Always Been my Son: A Mother's Story about Raising her Transgender Son (2017).
Barkin will discuss how A Grand Love came to be and read key excerpts from the book. Barkin will also be in conversation with Ari Sifuentes, a Marin County based Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in LGBTQ+ youth, to discuss how to to support and be an ally to transgender youth. Barkin and Sifuentes will do a Q&A at the end of the presentation.

More about Ari Sifuentes: Ari Sifuentes (she/her), M.A., is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice, with specialized training in adolescent and LGBTQIA+ mental health. Ari’s practice is located in Kentfield, and is dedicated to supporting queer, trans, and gender expansive tweens, teens, and adults in Marin County and throughout California. Ari is a queer, Latina, cis-woman, and her approach to therapy is collaborative, creative, trauma-informed, and strengths-based. Prior to opening her practice, Ari worked at The Spahr Center, Marin County’s former LGBTQIA+ center, as the Director of Mental Health. Ari was responsible for managing all mental health programming, overseeing clinical interns, and providing individual and group therapy. Ari is passionate about cultivating a therapeutic space that goes beyond "LGBTQIA-friendly," and is instead, whole-heartedly queer and trans affirming.
