In 1976, masked gunmen boarded a school bus and kidnapped 26 children and their bus driver in Chowchilla, California. No one could have predicted what would unfold for the next thirty-six hours.
Chowchilla, a new CNN Film, goes through the harrowing event, minute by minute, with the students who were kidnapped almost fifty years ago. Turned out the kidnappers were rich kids from the Bay Area. The survivors discuss how the event has impacted their lives.
The Sausalito Library presents a screening of Chowchilla and Q&A with George Osterkamp. Osterkamp, Sausalito resident and award-winning journalist, is featured in the documentary, discussing his reporting on the 1976 kidnapping. Osterkamp was also an advisor for the documentary. If you look closely, you will notice that Osterkamp is being interviewed in our very own Friends Bookstore throughout the film.
