Join us for an entertaining slide presentation from Olaf Engvig based on his recent book, The Ships That Built the West. Olaf’s book is about the ships and seamen from Scandinavia that helped build the west coast during the years from 1880 to 1945. Featured are the stories of the steam schooner WAPAMA and the hybrid ship VÆRDALEN. The VÆRDALEN is now the sole survivor of the famed Scandinavian Navy of commercial vessels on the West Coast. Olaf Engvig is a maritime scholar, author, and captain of historic vessels.
