Post Date:12/15/2023 3:10 PM

At its meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, the City Council will elect a mayor and vice mayor by majority vote to serve a term of one year.

Responsibilities of the mayor include presiding over Council meetings, acting as a spokesperson for the City, and working with the vice mayor and city manager to set the agendas of forthcoming meetings. The vice mayor assumes the responsibilities of mayor when the mayor is unavailable.

Sausalito's mayor for 2023 has been Melissa Blaustein. Ian Sobieski has served as vice mayor.

The election of mayor is item 8F on the City Council agenda for December 19. The election of vice mayor will follow as item 8G. Time for public comment will be available before each election takes place.

Prior to the elections, City Manager Chris Zapata will make brief presentations thanking the outgoing mayor and vice mayor for their service.

Other items on the meeting agenda for December 19 include the possible formation of a business improvement district in the City's downtown central commercial area and appointments to open seats on City boards and commissions.
